The Apex Sleepwell Pillow range

Our Director of Physiotherapy Rebecca Nelson, a Spinal & Headache, Migraine, Vertigo Physiotherapy Specialist, has designed and further enhanced a range of orthopaedic pillows called The Apex Sleepwell Pillow range.  She designed them from her experience of nearly 30 years of successfully treating people with neck pain, spinal problems, headaches and migraines and her extensive knowledge of the spine.  She has discovered the absolute importance that pillows play in helping to cure these problems and also in preventing neck related pains and headaches from starting in the first place. Neck pain, spinal problems, headaches and migraines are often directly worsened by badly fitting pillows hence she developed a pillow range which addresses the body’s need for proper support during sleep.

HEALTH WARNING: A soft or flat pillow may be damaging your neck

Did you know that a soft or flat pillow can have long-lasting, damaging effects on the neck joints, causing chronic neck, shoulder and arm pain, neck stiffness, pins and needles or numbness in the hands and arms, painful headaches and migraines and even vertigo or dizziness? Feather pillows and other soft, marshmallow-like pillows are particularly lacking in support for the spine as they sag, allowing the neck to fall into unnatural positions, jamming up or stiffening the neck joints on one side of the neck and overstretching them on the other. This will very likely lead to pain over time.

Do you ever scrunch up your pillow in your sleep to get more support?

If so, this is a very good indicator that your pillow is not right for you and your neck is yearning for more support. This is your body’s way of telling you that your neck is not in the correct position for sleep.

Waking up in the morning with neck pain, neck stiffness, headaches or migraines is usually a direct result of poor neck positioning during sleep from an inadequate pillow…

Over the last 3 decades, Rebecca has seen how soft or flat pillows can lead to much more than a bad night’s sleep for many people.

The Apex Sleepwell Pillow Can Begin the Recovery From Neck Pain and Headaches or Migraines

It can be astounding how quickly a simple change of pillow to The Apex Sleepwell Pillow can begin the road to recovery from neck pain, neck stiffness, shoulder pain, arm pain, headaches and migraines. The Apex Sleepwell Pillow is designed to keep your neck in the best position possible during sleep, in order for you to get an undisturbed night’s rest.

The Apex Sleepwell Pillow Can Help Prevent Neck Pain and Headaches in Children and Adults

For children (from 10-12 years) and adults who are fortunate enough to have never suffered neck pain or headaches our Apex Sleepwell Pillow is highly recommended to help prevent the onset of neck related pains, as prevention is better than cure.

Whilst it is widely accepted in the world we live in that a good supportive mattress is essential to support your spine while you sleep, it is often unknown how essential a supportive pillow is in looking after the health of your neck.

Our range of orthopaedic pillows, have been uniquely designed in thickness and firmness to match the individual needs of sleepers according to their build.

Each Apex Sleepwell pillow has been technologically innovated to include a latex high-density core which provides the precise level of thickness and support to ensure the optimum sleeping position for a healthy neck. Unlike other pillow products on the market, this central core runs throughout the pillow’s entire width ensuring that the pillow retains its shape whilst under compression during the night. In addition, the central core is surrounded by a hollow fibre fill which helps prevent sweating, allowing your skin to breath while you sleep.

Why Finding the Correct Angle is So Important

Sleeping on a pillow that is too soft or flat causes the neck joints to be compressed and placed under excessive load by the weight of the head. The ideal neck position in relation to your trunk (or horizontal) can be achieved by lifting the head very slightly to an approximate angle of between 30-45°. This opens up the neck joints and is physiologically the best sleeping position for your neck and spine.

Size Really Matters When Choosing Your Pillow

Just like buying shoes, one size does not fit all!

It is very important that the pillow you choose fits your body shape and size to ensure your neck is at the correct angle as you sleep. This is why our range includes an Apex Sleepwell Pillow for everyone. Our 2 pillow types are dependent on the height / thickness of the pillow.

Selecting Your Apex Sleepwell Pillow Type

  • H2 – is a pillow for average to lighter adult builds & teenagers.  If you are currently suffering moderate to severe headaches/ migraines or vertigo/ dizziness then the H2 pillow is best for you at this time.
  • H3 – is a pillow for average to heavier adult builds

Getting Used to Your Apex Sleepwell Pillow

It is entirely normal that it may take a few nights for your body to adapt to the new correct, most supportive neck position that the Apex Sleepwell Pillow provides and feel totally comfortable on it, just as it would for the rest of your spine if you changed your mattress. Then, enjoy the shear bliss of sleeping well in comfort…

Hear what verified customers have to say about our Apex Sleepwell Pillow Collection

5/5: “Goodbye marshmallow pillows! I have always liked ‘marshmallow type’ pillows so when I was recommended the Apex pillow to help with a painful shoulder at night, I was not at all keen. I thought it would be far too hard, thus uncomfortable. However, in desperation I decided to give it a go and to my amazement I had my first good night’s sleep in ages! I have had the Apex pillow for well over a year now and can honestly say it has made a real difference to my neck and shoulder. Definitely money well spent.” Julie Handley, Belfast
