Microdermabrasion at Apex Clinic, Belfast

The non-surgical treatment for skin rejuvenation, giving your skin an amazing healthy glow and youthful appearance with NO down time!

Microdermabrasion is a skin rejuvenation procedure that gently uses fine crystals to buff away the outer thin layer of skin cells to reveal new, healthy, glowing skin and leave your skin looking smoother, radiant and fresher than before. It is a medical grade, non invasive exfoliating procedure which is painless. Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen and elastin production which further renews the skin. Skincare products can then absorb more readily into the skin following treatment. The microdermabrasion treatment is carried out using our Skinbase™ Microdermabrasion machine which also benefits from a vacuum action which stimulates the micro-circulation, increasing blood flow to the treated area.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly will I see a difference?

You will see visible results immediately, after the first treatment and with each subsequent treatment your skin should continue to look progressively better. The maximum glowing affect of microdermabrasion will be on days 2 to 4 so if you have a special event to attend to, book your appointment accordingly. The visible benefits will then continue for 4 to 6 weeks after each treatment.

Are there any side effects to treatment?

After treatment, the skin may feel tight with mild redness. These effects normally subside within 24 hours of treatment.

How often should I have treatment?

For full microdermabrasion benefits, we recommend regular treatments, your second appointment after 3 weeks and then once every 6 weeks, lifelong.

How long does a Microdermabrasion session last?

A microdermabrasion session lasts for 30 minutes, with the exception of the initial appointment, which is 40 minutes. This allows time to discuss your areas of concern and your aims of treatment before the treatment commences.

Are there any pre-treatment instructions?

Yes, it’s important to:

  • Attend your appointment with no make-up .
  • Avoid laser hair removal, electrolysis, botox and dermal fillers for at least two weeks before treatment.
  • Avoid sun tanning, tanning creams or sprays on your face for at least a week before treatment.
  • Do not wax the treatment areas for 1 week before treatment.

Is Microdermabrasion a good treatment for acne scars or acne?

Microdermabrasion for acne scars can be extremely effective however we don’t recommend microdermabrasion treatment if you have active acne on your face, as the process can make the acne worse.

Are there any aftercare instructions or special considerations to remember after a Microdermabrasion session?

Yes, it’s important to follow some aftercare instructions to ensure the best possible results. These include:

  • Avoid wearing make-up after treatment for the rest of the day, except lipstick and eye make-up can be worn if you wish. The skin may be slightly red after treatment but this will generally clear within 24 hours.
  • Avoid sun exposure, the skin may be more sensitive to the sun after treatment, so it’s important to wear an SPF of 30 or higher during the day and to limit sun exposure to the face for a few days.
  • Keep skin hydrated, the skin may be a little dry after the treatment, so it’s important to use a fragrance-free moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated.
  • Avoid harsh skincare products, the skin may be more sensitive after treatment, so it’s best to avoid using harsh skincare products, such as exfoliating scrubs for a few days.
