My pain is gone thanks to Apex Clinic!

For 64-year-old Bety Smith from Newtownards, severe shoulder pain and lower back pain following a car accident were having a devastating impact on her life. Desperate to get some relief she visited, Apex Clinic, Belfast. Here, Betty describes how the clinic’s unique regime of specialist manual physiotherapy treatment, called The Nelson Spinal Approach™ cleared her constant pain!

Bety, when did you shoulder pain and lower back pain begin?

I was in a car accident 1.5 years ago and another vehicle drove into the side of my car. Immediately after the accident I thought I was ok but the next day I woke up with severe pain in my shoulder and lower back. I went to see my GP and they recommended I try physiotherapy to alleviate the pain. The pain was so bad my posture was affected and even how I stood.

How did the pain effect your life?

I was always sore and always in pain. I work with kids, and this was a real struggle especially if I needed to lift them out of the car or if they fell over. When I would lift the children, I would be in agony and it would make my pain much worse.

What led you to Apex Clinic?

I attended Apex Clinic many years ago for a trapped nerve that I had from doing a lot of swimming and Apex helped me back then. When I needed physiotherapy treatment for my shoulder and back pain, I wanted to go somewhere that I knew and that was highly recommended, so I gave Apex Clinic a call.

How has your life changed since having treatment?

It’s absolutely brilliant, my pain has gone!  As well as the manual treatment that I received for my shoulder pain and lower back pain, my specialist physiotherapist also gave me advice and strategies to put in place to help me manage my everyday tasks such as hoovering without aggravating my shoulder pain. It is such a simple thing, but it made such a difference to me. I attend Apex Clinic every few months now for maintenance treatment to keep my pains away.

What advice would you offer someone suffering with shoulder pain or lower back pain?

I would definitely say go and see one of the specialist physios in Apex Clinic because they do a fantastic job! They are so informative and explain everything to you and you come away understanding your condition and with useful advice to put into action.
